First 3 weeks of Advertising

In the first three week of my ADVERTISING class I learned that no matter what you advertise you need to catch people attention. Therefore, advertisers' job isn't as easy as it may seems. First of all the need to target a certain group of people (i.e. little kids as opposed to elderly people). Once they determined who they want to advertise their products to and how they want to reach them, they need to be extremely creative. The use of catchy slogans or jingles, powerful colors or famous people in the ad is a good start.
Moreover, in these few weeks we learned that very often, ads are deceiving and that real products are not always exactly what they look like in those ads. We learned to be active part of the process; by this I mean we need to be responsible and aware of what we chose to buy.
Ethics issue also take part of the advertising process. In class we looked at some bad taste commercials/ads and discussed how poor the content was. Agencies should try to be more innovative but sometimes they just "go" for the money.
